Reply with your name, what you prefer to be called, and then recommend a local, low price food joint that is a hidden gem.

I’m Jeff Salbato (your teacher), but I prefer Jeff. You only need to introduce yourself in one of these sub-topics, but, because I’m the supposed leader here, I’ll post in all of them…

Hidden food joints: Arirang Korean, Coda Vietnamese Bakery, Magokoro Japanese (closed for now), Viet Rice, Gyros Mediterranean, Thai Cuisine, Don Choche, Curry Leaf, Tako Ten, Tap N Taco, Federidelfos, Il Vicino.

I’ve been wanting to try Coda Bakery… is there anything from the menu that I must try?

                Hi Katie,
Oh, I would love to be in your shoes, getting to try Coda for the first time. You can’t really go wrong there, but my go-tos are the Banh Mi sandwiches. And my favorites are the BBQ tuna, the egg, and the fried tofu (tofu is hard to do well, but they nail it).

              Spencer Storey

Hello my name is Spencer Storey! A local food place that I go to at least once a week is Pho Bar in Rio Rancho, it is a Vietnamese place that specializes in pho but they make all sorts of other meals as well. My family and I have been going for 8 years and we love it, we have gotten to know the owner and he even opened a faster paced place called “Spring Rollin” that serves pho on the go and its a very similar taste!

                    Spencer,
Yes, Pho Bar is great. And they might take the trophy for portions…their large Pho is the size of kiddie pool. And just down the road from there is VietRice, which is also great. If I lived in that area, I would eat at those places weekly. You’re lucky.

Hey Spencer! I am a huge fan of Pho. I’ve been eating it my whole life because my little brother’s mom is Vietnamese and she can make some good pho. Have you ever tried Spring Rollin’?

I’ve been out of Rio Rancho for a couple years now and didn’t think that I’d be going back for Vietnamese food of all things, but your recommendation is compelling!

Hey Katie!! Pho Kup at green jeans is soooo good! I love their spring rolls. There’s a place called Bamboo by Kulantro off of Menaul and Louisiana that is run by (or at least used to be run by… I don’t know if they switched ownership) the same people, but it’s more of a sit down resturaunt. Their pho is similar and really great.

Hi everyone, my name is Alitzah and I go by Alitzah:)
One of my favorite restaurants that I consider to be a hidden gem would be IL Vicino which is like an Italian restaurant, what I love from that place is the wood fired pizza. Another hidden gem restaurant is Spring Rollin and they sell Vietnamese food and its pretty good too.

                                        Alitzah & Gladys,

Il Vicino was on my list too.

I still haven’t tried Spring Rollin, because when I look into it the small portions scare me. I’m used to the humongous bowls of Pho and hearty banh mi most places serve. I’m not usually a spring roll person. Somebody please convince me. Or, you know, convince me to not eat so much.

Hey everyone! My “underground” food rec, would have to be Limonata, for breakfast or brunch, they have to die-for-crepes, along with a variety of quiche, burritos, and other breakfasty things. The service is always great and they wifi and outlets making it a great study spot! Go check it out!

Hello everyone! My name is Gabe, short for Gabriel- but I prefer Gabe. I see that there is a semi-popular opinion for Mexican food which makes me happy to see! I too will be contributing to that genre with my accidental discovery of the taqueria inside the El Mesquite Market off San Pedro on the east end of central ABQ. They will load you up with all the goods necessary to fix yourself up to 15 tacos for the price of 3!!!!! personally I get the carne asada every time.

Yes! And literally right next door to El Mesquite market is Coda Bakery for the best Banh Mi sandwiches I’ve ever eaten! That is 50 yards of food heaven. There are two roads in town that have so many brilliant food gems on them: Eubank and San Pedro. And, in this case, it is literally 2 of the best food joints that share a wall.
                                                  Bravo! Jeff

My family actually immigrated from Japan which was full of good food (especially sushi). We’ve always had trouble finding an authentic Japanese restaurant in ABQ but here are some gems that we go to regularly for a taste of home! Sushiya and Nagomi are both great choices if you are looking for fresh sushi at a reasonable price in NM. Nagomi specifically has a Japanese chef who will cook you up some delicious Japanese teishoku. We also love Vietnamese food, particularly pho and I think Pho Ginger on Juan Tabo has the best broth I’ve tasted so far!

If you want to impress a date, take them to Sushiya, because it is great sushi and charming, but if you just want great food that is very affordable for Japanese food, Nagomi is genius.

                                                              Hello,

My name is Renee and that is what I prefer to go by. One of my favorite local food places, which is also a brunch place, is the Cinnamon Cafe. It is located off of Juan Tabo and Eubank and they have some of the best coffees, teas, and breakfast meals that I have tried. It personally reminds me of Flying Star, but 1,000x better in my opinion.
I also highly recommend Geckos which is located in Nob Hill close to Carlisle. It gives a dive bar sort of vibe, but I have not been disappointed in any of the food items I have tried from there. They also have happy hour and different food specials every day of the week! Again, I have never been disappointed when visiting this joint. 10/10 recommend!
