Reply with your name, what you prefer to be called, and then recommend a local, low price food joint that is a hidden gem.

I’m Jeff Salbato (your teacher), but I prefer Jeff. You only need to introduce yourself in one of these sub-topics, but, because I’m the supposed leader here, I’ll post in all of them…
Hidden food joints: Arirang Korean, Coda Vietnamese Bakery, Magokoro Japanese (closed for now), Viet Rice, Gyros Mediterranean, Thai Cuisine, Don Choche, Curry Leaf, Tako Ten, Tap N Taco, Federidelfos, Il Vicino.

Samantha Ruiz
Hello! I’m Samantha Ruiz and I usually go by Sam. My go-to hidden gems are Le Bistro and El Paisa. If you are in the South Valley area, El Paisa has great tacos and burritos. But don’t sleep on the tortas, their asada torta is one of my favorites. Le Bistro is in the state fairgrounds area off San Pedro. I order their Chicken Pad Thai and their Beef Pho. They also have a few baked goods and a variety of smoothies. I always grab melon bread on the way out to eat at home. Give it a try and let me know how you like them.

Sam! Great recommends! I still haven’t been to El Paisa, but, sadly, Le Bistro is great but is closed. I hope it’s temporary, but I can’t tell. That is so sad, because San Pedro is a food mecca…On that one street you have Coda, Alqud’s, Asian Pear, A1 market, El Mesquite, etc.

Allison Tomes
Hi everyone! I’m Allison. I really appreciate all the food recommendations! Definitely will be taking note of all of them.
Two places I can recommend are Mr. Tokyo in NE Heights (great sushi and fried rice), and Crepes Brulee by San Mateo (amazing combination of crepes and creme brulee).

Ruth Cabrera
Hello! My name is Ruth. A hidden gem I recommend is Fun Noodle Bar. They have some of the best soup dumplings I’v tried in Albuquerque.

Ruth! Yes…I can’t believe I haven’t tried this place yet. Totally my kind of joint. Thanks so much.

Brigette Zamora
Hi guys:) My name is Brigette and that’s what I like to be called. I thought recommending a local restaurant would be easy but I failed to remember every place I love was annihilated during covid. RIP Fu Yuang( my favorite Korean restaurant)and Tonari No Mise( the only place that sold dorayaki) :,). Although, Arirang is a solid choice for Korean food and they live on, fortunately. I was also relieved that Kimo’s Hawaiian Barbeque made it through Covid because it was closed for the longest time, I thought they were a goner until literally last week. BUT, they have really quality simple Hawaiian dishes like spam masubi, pork katsu or teriyaki chicken, white rice, and macaroni salad. Kinda basic, but the combination of these dishes are so satisfying to me and I highly recommend. Although, I have yet to be back since I thought it was gone forever so if it has gone downhill, I’m sorry!!!

Brigette,
I know…Covid got three of my favorites, too: Magokoro, T&T gas mart (cheap Vietnamese), and Taco Fundacion.
Nooo, not spam masubi, you weirdo. (Just playing.) I still haven’t tried Kimo’s, so you win. I only eat beef or pork if it’s a special occasion, so I rarely eat Hawaiian anymore. But I grew up as a surfer and would visit Kauai and used to love the food back then.
Have you tried Nagomi up on Juan Tabo? Good curry and katsu at good prices.

Austin Shaw
Hello, my name is Austin. I recently went to a place called The Block, it is a cool place to hang out with friends. I tried one of the places you can find there called Stackers, and they make a really good smash burger. The green chile burger was amazing as well as the patty melt! The fries were also really good.

John sena
Hello, my name is John. I would have to recommend Burger Boy as a hidden gem, so if anyone is heading up our Sandia Mountains, I would strongly suggest stopping by. They are a mom-and-pop-owned restaurant, and I always find it nice to stop there before heading up.

My name is Summer and my two favorite local places are Viet Taste by Coronado Mall and Sawmill Market in downtownish. Viet taste has the absolute best porchops and at a small price as well. As for Sawmill, I love it because you can get something different everytime you go and it is always delicious! I look forward to being in this class with all of you this semester!
