Reply with your name, what you prefer to be called, then recommend a video game or board game that deserves more love that we are missing out on.

I’m Jeff Salbato (your teacher), but I prefer Jeff. You only need to introduce yourself in one of these sub-topics, but, because I’m the supposed leader here, I’ll post in all of them…
Video games no one talks about that are genius: XCom2, Train Valley 2, Slime Rancher, Creeper World, Shapez, Defense Grid: Awakening.
Video games that are popular and deserve to be: Portal, Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3 & 5, Monster Train, Saints Row the Third, Stardew Valley.
2 player board games my wife and I love: Battle Lines, Targi, Arboretum, Pandemic, Lost Cities, Viticulture, Quest for El Dorado, Wingspan, Santorini.
3-4 players: The Crew, Azul, Pandemic, Las Vegas.
For groups: Wits & Wagers, Balderdash, Scattergories, Say Anything, Taboo, Pictures.

I love so many different games on this list and Slime Rancher most definitely needs to be talked more about. I’ve personally sunk so many hours into the game and still haven’t discovered all that needs to be discovered there is so much to be discovered.
-
Thanks Chris! Slime Rancher is such a gem. If you are that person that loves to organize things just right (yes, I’m talking to you, Minecraft and Stardew Valley crazies) you may love Slime Rancher. Getting the right breeds in the right places and making the farm work like clockwork … until the cat ones escape and breed with the wrong slime and go psycho…)
ooh…I just bought an early access version of Slime Rancher 2, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Linnea
My name is Linnea, which is what I prefer being called. I would recommend a game called Wingspan: The Board Game, it’s a board game about birds. It’s fairly non-competitive and fun to play when you’re looking for a more relaxing game with friends. The experience is sort-of like bird watching, except instead of birds there are cards – and you don’t have to go outside.

Linnea,
Yes! Wingspan is loved at our house. When you’re ready for a new one, try Pandemic or Viticulture…they are as good as Wingspan, about the same medium level of complexity, and so satisfying. Modern board games are so so good.

Anthony Zamora
Hello my name is Anthony,
Some of my more favorite video games that I would recommend to people that aren’t extremely mainstream would be Slime Rancher, Omori (Pretty dark and not for many demographics), Inscryption, Hollow Knight, Satisfactory, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. For some of my bigger games that are fairly mainstreamed that I would recommend would be Lethal Company, Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal, Death Loop, Apex Legends, Subnatica, and Hell Divers 2. A board game that I don’t really see and enjoy would be Rummikub. While I know this list of games seems very chaotic with very little overlap, I enjoy many different genres. It may just be because of my ADD leads me to all genres of video games.-
Subnautica is actually the game I’ve been playing right now. So good. (And I’ve already praised Slime Rancher and Satisfactory above.)

Hello Anthony,
I never got to play inscription but I have seen videos about it and I find it very interesting! I love card games. Inscription definitely isn’t talked about enough. There’s also Balatro.

Camilla Callow
Hello! My name is Camilla, most people call me Cami.
Amazing strategy board games to play in groups are:
Catan, which combines competitiveness and bargaining (plenty of yelling). Arcs is complex space warfare, while Brass Birmingham simulates life as a factory owner during the industrial revolution. Splendor is short and sweet.
Social deduction games like Mafia, Blood on the Clock Tower, and Town of Salem are like Among Us in real life and better.-
Cami!
Wow, you just went big! You are a serious board gamer. Shhh…don’t tell anyone, but I am too. I mean, I love playing games of every weight, but my buddy and I play mostly heavier games. Right now we’re playing “Slay the Spire: The Board Game” and “Lost Ruins of Arnak”. And our next games will be “Spirit Island” and “Search for Lost Species”.I haven’t played “Brass” yet, but I keep wondering whether to grab it for my group. The trouble is two of us like heavy and longer games, but when it’s the four of us the group wants to play quicker and less competitive games like “The Crew”.
My wife and I used to play “splendor” but she gets sick of games quick. Her favorites are “Battle Line”, “Lost Cities”, “Pandemic”, “Targi”, and “Quest for El Dorado”.

Dan Sequiera
Hello everyone. My name is Dan Sequeira. I look forward to working with everyone this semester.
I’m a big fan of a slightly different gaming genre but thought I could add it here. While video and board games are fun, for me, nothing beats the immersive worlds of table top adventure games. Specifically the game systems Pathfinder, Dungeons and Dragons, and Dungeon Crawl Classics are my go-to’s. Other systems are fun but I have less experience with them. Any other D20 or D10 fans in this class?

Brianna Delmolino
Hello Dan!
That’s really cool that you’re into table top adventure games. I have always wanted to give one a try but just haven’t had the chance. I used to watch a channel on Youtube play dungeons and dragons and had a blast just observing it. -
Dan Sequeira
D&D can be a lot of fun. I’ve mostly played older versions like AD&D through 3.5 but 5 is fun to play, the few times I have gotten the chance to. If you ever find a Dungeon Master, bring a snack-rifice and the gods will open a path to you. Its a lot of fun.

Megan Stein
Hello Dan,
I’ve never really gotten to play any table top adventure games but my best friend plays D&D once every week and she talks about it nonstop. I would love to play it if I had the time to invest. I think it’s so cool that you like table top adventure games.

Brianna Delmolino
Hi everyone!
My name is Brianna. I am a huge fan of board games! My husband and I used to go to Empire Board Game Library every weekend and try out new games. I highly recommend that place if you have not been!
My husband and I are always looking for good 2-player board games so I know lots of those! My recommendations would be Quacks of Quedlinberg, Wingspan, Watergate, Spots, Splendor Duel, Sky Team, and Azul.
Some games that require more players that I also really enjoy are Pandemic (although once my friends and I finally beat this game we just stopped playing so we could end on a win), Mysterium, Coup, The Crew, Bohnanza, and Codenames.-
Brianna,
Yes. Quacks, Wingspan, Pandemic, Codenames, Mysterium, and Azul are great. The Crew is one of my all-time favorites.
I have Bohnanza but still haven’t gotten enough people together to play it…dang it!My 2-player recommendations for you, based on your list, would be Targi, Battle Line, and Lost Cities.

Thien Nguyen
My name is Thien Nguyen, but feel free to call me Thien. I noticed Camilla mentioned Catan, and I completely agree. It’s such an enjoyable game. I particularly love the negotiation aspect; it’s always enjoyable to see how differently people respond to bribes or deals off their own principles or stubbornness. Brianna also has a very good 2 player board game list. I personally like Splendor Duels the most for 2 players.

Ryan Muniz
Hi everyone. My name is Ryan. I’ve been playing video games for a long time and see myself still playing them in the future. Some of the gems I have found while gaming are Left 4 Dead 2, Plants VS Zombies GW2, and the Resident Evil Games (seriously, all of them). As you can tell I enjoy horror and cooperative games since they have left me with the best memories as well as losing sleep from being too scared.
-
Ryan,
I’ve put many hours into “Left for Dead 2”. I usually now pull up Far Cry 3 or Borderlands 2 when I get that itch now, but, still, good game.

Christian Valencia
Hello, everyone! My name is Christian Valencia, I’m a Fine Arts student, but I’ve been a gamer most of my life.
I’m really nostalgic for the Dragonball Budokai Tenkaichi games, I used to play tournament battles on those with my brothers all the time. My personal favorites are the Dark Souls series, Sekiro, and the Batman Arkham games, I like how gratifying the combat is. Also, I have a soft spot for horror: Silent Hill, Resident Evil, The Evil Within, all fantastic (and scary!) story – based experiences
Looking forward to working with you all this semester!

Oliver Workman
Hi all, my name is Oliver (He/Him pronouns)
One of my favorite board games has a really long name, it’s called “Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Duel at Mt. Skullzfyre.” Me and my family just call it Wizards. It’s a game for up to 8 players, best played with 4 or 5 in my opinion, and is basically a spell building card game where the goal is to survive the longest.
In terms of video games, one game I like that has more of a cult following than anything is called The Binding of Isaac. The storyline has religious themes, but it’s a dungeon roguelike. Some of the bosses include the four horsemen, the seven deadly sins (in multiple forms), and the character’s mom. It’s a fun little game that I’d absolutely recommend, without getting the DLCs even. I also like Crypt of the Necrodancer, which is a mix of roguelike and rhythm genres where you move/attack on the beat.
-
Oliver,
My best friend in town is into those kinds of board games, and he is slowly pulling me in. I’m still just dipping my toes in with “Slay the Spire: The Board game”, but he keeps pushing.
I have always wondered who is playing those two video games. I played “Binding” for a few hours but then got too frustrated.
I hope you can see that you’ve got a philosophical bent with your game themes…prolonging certain death. Dark stuff. I love reading such cynical things, but I want my games to be hopeful.
Thanks, Jeff

Megan Stein
Hello, my name is Megan and that’s what I like to be called.
A board game that I never hear anyone talk about that I find to be really fun is called “betrayal at house on the hill”. My friends and I love this game because there are multiple scenarios you may encounter depending on the cards you pick up and the rooms you are in during each round, and no one starts out as the traitor. It can take a long time to get through, but it’s very fun to play with a group of people.-
Megan,
I am ashamed to have to admit I’ve never played it…I know, shame. But I hear “Betrayal…” is phenomenal.

Devon Varela
Hey guys, Devon signing on. I don’t play games like I used to but when I did I was really into Apex Legends, a battle royale game with characters that all have different abilities that you play as in hopes that you and your squad will be the last team standing. I would say it has a high skill ceiling but it is very rewarding. I just started playing Marvel Rivals and I would say it’s reignited my interest in games. It is a very easy to play game and it’s one of those games that you can pick up and play.

Jesse Gallegos
Hello!
I’ve been playing too much League of Legends lately. I recently quit for the semester (it’s pretty terribly addicting and frustrating). So I’ve started playing this game Stardew Valley on my switch and it’s such a breath of fresh air. I’m just hanging out watering my plants and going to festivals so far. It’s really chilled out compared to raging in a ranked match because you made one tiny mistake and lost the game. I would really recommend it to wind down after work, school, family, etc. Hopefully I’ll develop some willpower to stay away from League but…I gotta hit diamond!
-
Yes, grasshopper, come to the light side. Stardew Valley, Slime Rancher, Satisfactory, etc.

Hello! MY name is Jonathan and one game that deserves more attention is definitely Slime Rancher! It’s brought me countless hours of enjoyment. I also agree that Far Cry 3&5 are excellent!
-
Ethan Beach
Hi, my name is Ethan, and one game that I think still deserves more attention is Journey, but will second that Satisfactory scratches an itch that many things really can’t. I’ll also recommend the Deep Rock Galactic Board Game if Co-op board games are your thing.

Perla Palomino
Hi everyone, my name is Perla and I really enjoy playing board games! After I moved to Albuquerque I discovered Empire Board Games and love playing new games there, they always recommend great options. One of my favorite board games is Istanbul where you are a gemstone dealer and each turn you need to trade or buy an item. Whoever gets all the gemstones first wins. I mainly like it because its not a game that you need to accumulate points to win, it is about the strategies you make in the game that will make you gain the gemstones. Dominion is another great game to play, specially with a big group, it gets very competitive!
