Reply with your name, what you prefer to be called, and one or more of your nerdiest/geekiest interests or hobbies.
-
I’m Jeff Salbato (your teacher), but I prefer Jeff. You only need to introduce yourself in one of these sub-topics, but, because I’m the supposed leader here, I’ll post in all of them…
My nerdiest interests are philosophy, psychology, political theory, history, books, and languages. My geekiest interests are video games and board games.

I’m pretty sure you copied my video game hobby but that’s alright and I also have a somewhat interest in psychology because I was really fascinated by the concept of it for awhile.

Chantell Enostrosa
Hello everyone, my name is Chantell and that is what I prefer to go by. I am finishing up my liberal arts degree. My nerdiest/geekiest interest includes reading, playing board games, doing puzzles, and diamond art. I enjoy reading or listening to thrillers and romance. My family and I enjoy game nights. Our favorite games lately have been cards against humanity, scattergories, and Uno. Looking forward to this class. Have a great semester.

Hi Chantell. I’m also a big CAH fan. If you don’t mind me asking, what is diamond art?
-
Chantell Enostrosa
Hello Dan, Diamond art is kind of like painting by numbers. Only it is not painting. You stick little diamonds on a sticky canvas. Haha, Hopefully I explained it good.

Amalie Schlegel
Hi Chantell,
What are some of your favorite thriller reads?
-
Chantell Enostrosa
Hello Amalie, I liked Stillhouse Lake Series by Rachel Caine, and books by Frieda Mc Fadden, Right now I am listening to Detective Louise Blackwell series by Matt Brolly.

Chantell,
You are definitely on my team…reading (always), playing board games (obsessively), puzzles (often). Take a peak at my recommendations on the other topics about books and games. And if you want to see lists of book recommendations, click on the “Propaganda” link below the banner on my website.
If your group works well with Scattergories and Cards against Humanity, you should try “Say Anything”…it’s like an open-ended Cards against Humanity with judging like Scattergories.
Thanks, Jeff-

Hello Jeff, We will definitely have to try say anything, sounds fun. And thanks for recommendations.I am always looking for new books and authors to read, as well as new games. :)

Trenton
Helloooo class,my names Trenton and I have many weird and just geeky hobbies, but mainly recently I have been obsessed with video games like Marvel Rivals or Rainbow Six. I also like to sometimes read or cook if I have the time to do that in my house, if not most of my day is spent on my phone or on TV. :0

Amalie Schlegel
Hi everyone,
My name is Amalie and I prefer to go by that or Ama (either works for me). I am currently working towards my Nursing degree with hopes to one day become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. My nerdy interests would have to be reading about psychology topics and watching Real Crime Psychology on youtube when I have the free time to do so, and really enjoy reading science fiction books by authors like Stephen King and building Legos. I am really excited to take this class and expand my knowledge! I hope everyone has an awesome semester. (: -
Isabel Moya
Hi everyone! My name is Isabel Moya, and I prefer to be called Isabel or Izzy for short. I’m currently a dual-credit student at College and Career High School, working toward a future in OB/GYN sonography. I’ve always been fascinated by the medical field, especially how technology is used to diagnose and treat patients.
One of my geekiest interests is diving into medical science, whether it’s watching surgical videos, learning about new advancements in ultrasound imaging, or researching different medical cases. I also have a deep love for true crime documentaries and forensic investigations—I find the process of solving cases through science and deduction really interesting.
When I’m not geeking out over medicine and crime documentaries, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and exploring new food spots (tostadas are my favorite!). I’m excited to be part of this class and looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Janessa Castillo
Hey ! I’m Janessa, but I prefer to go by Jay but either one is okay with me. I have a lot of interests, most of them are nerdy. I play a lot of video games, mostly any hero shooter I can get my hands on (Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, etc.) ! I also like any type of horror media, it’s one of my favorite genres along with sci-fi. I also like writing and making music, I draw too. I also REALLY like EDM.
Thanks for having me here, I’m excited for this class :D

Sounds pretty awesome, do you play any instruments? also how do you like marvel rivals compared to overwatch 2? Heard a lot of how marvel rivals is just overwatch 1 and that’s all anybody really wanted. Personally i never got into overwatch but marvel rivals was fun.

Gabriela Parra
Hi everyone! My name is Gabriela but I prefer Gabby. I’m a sucker for thrillers and dystopian fiction whether it’s books or movies. I love listening to all kinds of music from rap, rock to kpop to ballads (you can imagine how bipolar my playlists are). And I also play the bass guitar (not too well though I’m still learning). My nerdiest side please don’t hate me, but I love math it’s always been one of my favorite subjects for some reason. I also love to collect manga and action figures as well as play video games from time to time!
-
Hayden Ramirez
Hi Gabby,
I also love math. I’m taking Pre-Calculus right now as I’m working on taking Calculus 1 and 2 next year for my major. I’ve had my fair share of bad days on the subject but I always try to think positively and it works out great. Working on homework assignments might take a while but the moment it’s finished just makes it so worth it.

Hello everyone, my name is Nathaniel, you can call me Nate, Nathan, or my friends and family have called me Buddy my whole life so that’s an option to. Few hobbies include, traveling, trying new things and new food, hiking, finding new sceneries, and playing games. Nerdiest things would probably be philosophy, physics, and psychology. I hate reading books, but will do it if I have too. A book introducing an idea or concept is great, but after a while it gets boring for me, id rather discuss the idea/my own thoughts and ideas than just read about it from some authors point of view. I’m always down for discussing things though.
My geek side though goes far.
anime: check
Lord of the Rings: check
League of Legends: (Very Toxic game) check
Marvels universe: check
Call of Duty: check
Baldurs gate 3: check
I enjoy some older and classic games from time to time as well, but mostly its just whatever is on Steam. Board games are great too, usually have a game night with friends once every few weeks and we will play cards against humanity, charade games ect. Might take my time driving somewhere out of state for the weekend just to get some food, might join a D&D campaign.-
Mambwe David Chama
Hi Nathaniel, Which anime is your favorite one and what about it makes it the number one for you? Also who’s your main in league, I used to play that game a lot and the community does kinda suck (I will judge your main(
-
Nathaniel J Speagle
Got a few favorites, but its a tie between Berserk and Requiem of the Phantom. Both are great but a bit older and also more original and their own thing. Not just another genre trope, no real story or depth to it like most anime now a days. Also got a main for each roll,
Top: Volibear/Cho’Gath
Jungle: Hecarim/Rengar
Mid: Akali/Diana
Bot: Varus/Jinx
Support: Leona/Naut/Thresh/Lulu

Hayden Ramirez
Hi everyone, my name is Hayden Ramirez.
My nerdiest/geekiest interests are playing video games (mostly story-mode ones) and watching PC builds on YouTube (mostly Linus Tech Tips, I’ve learned a lot about the software/hardware side from him).
That is also the reason I chose to major in Computer Science. I may shift around Computer Engineering and Cybersecurity but that’s the plan for now. Learning how to troubleshoot problems is one of the many necessary skills in this field and I look forward to it.
I’ve also been a console player forever, but I’ve wanted to build or get a pre-built PC since there are a lot of games on there that I also want to play. I heard they’re not cheap, but I should be fine as long as I budget correctly.
-
Hayden,
I’ve never built a PC from scratch, but my usual method is to get a decent rig and then upgrade the easy stuff…graphics card, RAM, SSD (PSU if needed), so that I end up with a decent gaming PC without paying a fortune. The key, I found, is making sure the mother board is versatile.
But it can become a real obsession…but a fun obsession.
Jeff
