I’m Jeff Salbato (your teacher), but I prefer Jeff. You only need to introduce yourself in one of these sub-topics, but, because I’m the supposed leader here, I’ll post in all of them…

My nerdiest interests are philosophy, psychology, political theory, history, books, and languages. My geekiest interests are video games and board games.

          Cole

            Howdy everyone,

I am Cole, and I love all things Sandias. When I am not working or studying I tend to be hiking in the mountains. I have a huge topographical map on my wall where I mark off where I have explored so far. Even more nerdy I love identifying plants and collecting/eating edible plants. Did you know the top of the sandias is covered in wild onion? The mid and higher levels is covered with yarrow which has been used for centuries for wound care and other things? Most would suggest it is mentioned in the Iliad hence its Latin genus “Achillea” in reference to Achilles use of it on the battle fields of Troy. Supposedly a centaur taught him to identify it. I just use a plant Identification book but to each their own… The lower mountains/pinon forests (6000-8000ft) will soon be full of white goosefoot or lambs quarters under any tree with some shade. It is suggested even prehistoric peoples would collect or grow it and is similar to spinach and delicious! Okay I will stop nerding out now sorry…

During Covid and the year after my wife and I used to wander up from Gallegos trailhead until we got lost and then just head West until we could find our way back to the trailhead. I hope we start that up again this year. One of my other hobbies is vegetarian cooking, and now you tell me I should combine the two. You are on another level! Very cool.

Hi Cole, no need to apologize! Your passion is awesome, it’s fascinating hw9 you connect history, mythology, and botany with your adventures in the Sandias. Your knowledge of edible plants and the stories behind them adds a whole new layer of meaning to exploring the mountains.

                Miguel

                  Good morning everyone,
My name is Miguel, and I would say the nerdiest thing about me is that I play the drums. not the drum-set (although I do play that as well), its more marching drumline type music with stick tricks. As for the geekiest thing I do, it would have to be playing sudoku (love the game), I can play it all day.

Oooh, I’m a fan of sudoku as well. But, my latest, daily deduction game has become “Logic: Code Breaker”. I play it several times a day and obsess over my stats.

Good morning, Miguel! Marching drumline with sticks sounds seriously impressive, definitely a cool kind of nerdy. And sudoku all day! That just means that you’re invested in what you love in my personal opinion.

                          Adlemy Hernandez Yanez

Hello everyone, my name is Adlemy Hernandez Yanez. I prefer to go by Adlemy. I would say that some of my nerdiest interests/hobbies are video games, diamond painting, reading, and learning overall. I am definitely a home body and enjoy playing video games with my fiancé. We usually play video games like Fortnite and Call of Duty together, but I also enjoy playing adventure games on my own, such as Until Dawn, The Last of Us, and God of War. I also love learning about new things in general. My family makes fun of me because they say I am a mini Google because to them it seems that whenever they ask me something, 9 times out of 10 I will know the answer. I think it’s just because I do love knowledge and I like staying up-to-date on different topics in life. Right now I am learning Brazilian Portuguese and I speak Spanish as well. Anyways, thank you for reading a little bit about me.

Hello, Everyone. My name is Melanie, and I love a multitude of nerdy things, from video games to my prized anime figure collection. I have over 60 figures in my collection and play various video games like Overwatch, Genshin Impact, Phasmaphobia, and much more! I mainly spend my time working or doing schoolwork since there’s never enough time to do what I would like to do.

Let’s all have a great summer semester!

Hello everyone! My name is Trystan I would say my geekiest thing is my love for gaming in terms of platinum trophies, over my lifetime I’ve platinumed over 1000 games, not sure if it’s very impressive or not. It doesn’t measure how much I love video games; it’s just something that can always get me through my day regardless of how hard work or something in my life is going. My nerdiest game with the most hours most likely go to the Halo Franchise.

Hi Trystan! What a cool way to spell your name. My brother likes to do something like this also – if I’m thinking of the right thing. He has several games with 100% of the achievements unlocked (if that’s what you’re talking about). I think it’s pretty cool, I think I would be like that if I played games more, but more out of perfectionism — oops.

Hi all, my name is Charlotte. My nerdiest interest is probably keeping tarantulas which I have been doing for about 15 years so far and I just love spiders in general. We are lucky to have a lot of cool ones here in New Mexico. I also play harp and theremin.

                                          Hi there.
My name is Katrina! I think one of my nerdiest interests would be either my obsession with house plants or collecting military surplus/memorabilia. I love history and I think, regardless of the piece, everything has served an important role in history. It’s like holding a time capsule, in my opinion. Most of my items are American, such as my Cold War era tanker helmet (DH-132B if you want to be exact). I also have a lot of jackets, a few gas masks, several pins, some schillings, and even a WWII bayonet. I also have a lot of East German items, since they tickle my boyfriend the fanciest. I love plants because they are pretty to look at and I like to grow alongside something else.

Hello my nerdiest interest is probably anime. I have watched an unholy amount of it but I will still stay by the fact that anime is overlooked and misunderstood. There are very good shows out there and I think it’s overlooked by the stigma towards it. I love the show attack on titian, jojo’s bizarre adventure and mononoke

My Name is Aaron. The list of my nerdy hobbies is long and my ADHD means I’m constantly picking up new ones. My current hyper-fixations include Lego, 3d printing, vintage synthesizers and making music, Project cars and working out. My main hobby at the moment has been learning to create music on my prophet rev2 analog synthesizer. I was in band in high school and played the trumpet so I already knew a lot about music. Translating that knowledge and love of music into my own creations has been some of the most fun I’ve ever had.

Hey everyone! I’m Grey, and my nerdiest interest would probably have to be my fixation with all things spreadsheets and data/numbers, hence why I’m an Accounting major. One of my favorite examples of this is how every summer my family puts up hummmingbird feeders; for one summer I collected data on each feeder and made graphs to demonstrate different metrics. Some of these included how quickly they would have to be replaced, what placements worked better than others, and to determine if hummingbirds have a preference for different colored feeders (spoiler alert: regardless of placement, red and yellow feeders will always do better!). Even though it’s insignificant in the grand scheme of things, I go absolutely crazy over these types of metrics and found the summer extremely fulfilling.

Grey! Yes and yes. High five! Tables and spreadsheets are beautiful. Just the other day I was adding to my cities research for places we want to move to when we retire in a few years (we plan on moving to different cities each year until we find “ours”). It has columns that rate things like weather, walkability, number of ethnic restaurants in a certain radius, populations, income disparity, etc. that generates a ranking.

My hobbies are tarot and oracle reading, astrology, and all things esoteric and metaphysical. I’ve been drawn to these types of “taboo” subjects for all of my life. I am drawn to the deep unknown and mystical, and am excited to explore philosophy to deepen critical thinking and logic from a new perspective.
