I’m Jeff Salbato (your teacher), but I prefer Jeff. You only need to introduce yourself in one of these sub-topics, but, because I’m the supposed leader here, I’ll post in all of them…

My nerdiest interests are philosophy, psychology, political theory, history, books, and languages. My geekiest interests are video games and board games.

Hello there, my name is Lynette I am not a nerd but, I am very goofy. I love to joke around and, in my household, we laugh a lot. I am going in the direction of Business Administration since that is what I have the most “work related” skills to be able to grow further into my career. My geekiest thing I love to do is make slime with my daughter, even its super messy it’s a fun little activity we can do together. I am excited to be here and ready to learn.

Hi Lynette, I have a nephew and he loves the dirty activities but I also enjoy making a mess with him. The smile and laughs is what counts.

Hi, Lynette! I too like slimes and have watched so many videos about it from Sandaisy. My favorite slimes are icee textured and clear ones with fake sprinkles, what about yours?:)

                    Hi Lynette,
Spending time with our children is such a joy. It doesn’t matter how small or big the task is, children alwyas help us see the world throgh their eyes and teach us the joy of living.

                  Connor

Hey there! I’m Connor, and prefer to be called as such. I have a lot of interests, being music, movies, and video games as the main three. I’d say my ‘geekiest’ interest would probably be comics/manga. I say that just because I’m not into to many of them. I grew up in the smaller town of Hobbs, NM, but my sister lived here in Abq when I was younger. When we would come up to visit my favorite place to stop by was always Astro Zombies. I came to love comics, especially series like The Walking Dead and Marvel Zombies (Zombies are cool, what can I say?(Also shout out to the Gears of War comics too)) Growing up, I definitely spend less time with comics, however I’m still into more recent ones such as Absolute: Batman. I’d like to mention too, I dunno if you can call it geeky anymore, since everything that used to be geeky 10-20 years ago is now mainstream. Either way, on the manga aspect of the ‘geekiness’ – I started reading Berserk a year or two ago, and have slowly been collecting the deluxe versions of the books. That whole fascination started over instagram, due to seeing hype edits or those whole ‘your month your character’ of the main character in the series, Guts. I don’t watch to many animes, as i do think a lot of them are geeky and the fanbases can be pretty cringe at times, but, Berserk struck a chord with me. I liked the 97′ anime, and that lead me to wanting more, so after some time, I decided to dive right in, and started buying the books, leading me to eventually get a tattoo of the ‘Brand of Sacrifice’ in which the main character is branded with relatively early on in the story. I highly recommend these series if anyone is interested in comics or manga, and haven’t read them already!

Hello Connor! Those are some really cool interests, we honestly are pretty similar. I remember back then I used to read manga too, not as much anymore, but when I did, I would read some Naruto manga. They were pretty cool in my opinion!

Hello Connor I too find manga entertaining and cool particularly Junji Ito’s horror manga the art is so cool and admirable and I hope to read berserk soon as I’ve seen that a lot of people recommend because the story line is good.

Hi Sierra, my name is Nova. I am/was also super into Harry Potter. I read all the books and watched all the movies multiple times, but I liked listening to the audiobooks by Jim Dale the most. I probably listened to each book hundreds of times and would fall asleep listening to them. For awhile nearly everything I owned was Harry Potter themed: I had Harry Potter boardgames, Harry Potter outfits, Harry Potter Legos, multiple wands, and a sorting hat. Anyways I was wondering who your favorite character is. Mine is probably Dobby but it used to be George.

My brag is that I read the whole series of Harry Potter books to my kids, and, yes, I did the voices. (The weak part was that I started reading them before the movies existed and pronounced everything wrong.)

                                            Nova Kappy

Hi, my name is Nova and I just go by Nova. I am 15 years old, and throughout my life I have had a ton of geeky hobbies/interests. When I was around seven I got super into chicken breeds, because my family was thinking about getting a few chickens. I researched their personalities, egg laying abilities, and even made a Powerpoint presentation to show to my parents so I could convince them which breeds we should get. At my prime I probably knew about 30-40 breeds but sadly I have forgotten nearly all of them.

Recently, I got back into Legos and have been spending way too much money on them. I think the botanical collection is super cool and my favorite Lego set I own is probably the Chrysanthemum set. But probably my biggest passion is rock climbing (mostly bouldering), which is a super nerdy sport. I like that climbing is not just about brute strength but also requires problem solving abilities. This makes climbing seem less like a workout and more like a puzzle which makes it much more enjoyable.

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

I think it’s pretty funny that you used to know like 30-40 different chicken breeds and even made a PowerPoint to convince your parents. I also think the LEGO botanical sets are really cool. I’ve never tried rock climbing, but the way you described it as more of a puzzle than a workout actually makes it sound pretty fun.

                                                Ethan Sullivan

Hi there, my name is Ethan, this is my second introduction topic I’m doing bc i have other things i wanna yap about. When it comes to my nerdiest interests I’ve got a few such as computers, poetry, and learning how things work mechanically.

computers and exploration of how things work stems from my ASD and I’ve been obsessed with them since i was a kid. I’ve always been seen as like a tech master by my teachers in the past because I could solve any computer problems they had. This is the exact reason I’m studying computer science. i could yap forever but I’m gonna cut myself off here about this.

when it comes to poetry its not a super nerdy thing for me but i call myself a nerd for it bc writing is a kinda nerdy subject but i like it that way. I would be willing to share some of my works if anyone is interested in reading them.

It sounds like you’re really good at solving problems, so computer science seems like a perfect fit for you. I also think it’s awesome that you write poetry! It’s always interesting to see what people write about and how they express themselves through poetry.

Hello! My name is Sarah; however, many of my close friends call me Mothy because of one of my more geeky hobbies, which is my fascination with Lepidoptera: the study of butterflies and moths. My interests mainly lie in the category of moths, and I can identify approximately 200 species on sight (out of 160,000, I’ve got a long way to go). This isn’t my only nerdy hobby by far, and I pride myself on being a jack of all trades. What started out as learning to crochet from a book during Covid led to learning how to do medieval tablet weaving and learning nalbinding stitches, which is a technique that dates back to the Vikings. I have so many hobbies I could talk about, from pin collecting, my love of dystopian novels, or the nonsense my D&D group gets up to, but these are definitely some of my favorites.

I’ve never really known much about moths, so I think it would be really interesting to learn more about them. I also think it’s awesome that you have so many different hobbies, especially learning things like medieval tablet weaving and nalbinding. You definitely sound like a jack of all trades!

Hello everyone. My name is Micheal or Mike; I don’t mind either. I would say one of my nerdier interests is tied between my obsession with Legos and my Warhammer 40k obsession. We all know what Legos are, but I try to collect LEGO minifigures, mainly Star Wars or Harry Potter. I would also be lying if I didn’t mention my overall obsession with the Star Wars and Harry Potter worlds.

Warhammer 40k is a tabletop game that started in the 80’s. The game is kind of like Risk but with a sci-fi theme and a whole lot cooler. But you basically pick a faction within the game, they models and paint set that go along with it. You build, paint, and play the game. In addition, there are two video games that are very enjoyable if you are a tabletop fan.

Those are just some of Interest. I look forward to the next 15 weeks!

behavioral issues and trauma. My goal is to help people become better versions of themselves.

Hi everyone! My name is Ava, and I’m a Psychology student at CNM. I’m really interested in learning more about people, their behaviors, and what influences the way we think and feel.

For the nerdiest/geekiest interests topic, I would have to say frogs, specifically strawberry poison dart frogs and glass tree frogs. I’ve always thought frogs were really interesting, but these two are my favorites. I really like strawberry poison dart frogs because of the way they care for their babies. The parents carry their tadpoles on their backs and take them to small pools of water, where they continue to care for them. They even lay unfertilized eggs for the tadpoles to eat until they develop into frogs. I think that is really cool, especially because they are such tiny frogs.

I also love glass tree frogs because they are partially transparent, so you can actually see some of their organs through their skin. Their transparent bodies help them blend into the leaves they live on, which makes them harder for predators to spot. I also think it’s interesting that you can sometimes see their heart beating through their chest! Long story short, I love how unique frogs can be and how every species has something different about them.

Hi my name is daisee, I’m a cosmetology student so i’m here for a prereq. I wouldn’t say they are nerdy interests but I like to talk about them. I’m a huge metalhead, my favorite band is megadeth and I have them tattooed on my arm. My favorite tv show is beavis and butthead, but I like actual works of film like the shining or Mulholland drive. My super nerdy interests are anything medieval like fashion or dragons or swords, old english tales and stuff like that. I also like sci fi and have an extensive collection of star wars Lego’s. My favorite super hero team is the xmen, even though I haven’t seen the new series. I like to do a lot, like draw and make stuff with my hands, write, i’m a dancer, and i love live music.

Out of the three main Spider-Men, Andrew Garfield is my favorite because I like his personality, humor, and the way he plays Peter Parker. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is also my favorite Spider-Man movie, and I think it has the best suit out of all of them.

I am originally from North Carolina and have spent the past two years living in Connecticut pursuing my hockey dreams. This year I will be playing for UNM’s ice hockey team and plan on transferring into UNM in fall of 2027 where I will study financial planning. Music has always been constant in my life from playing the guitar to drums and even keyboard occasionally. I recently got into the production side of music where I focus on making electronic dance music. I’ve been a dj for a little over a year now and absolutely love it. Im extremely exited to finally be in a philosophy course, it’s something that always peaked my interest and I cannot wait to learn more.

I also spend a lot time making useless forms in xcel and word.

                                                                              • #66839 Reply

I use she/they pronouns, hence being called Mage, lol (sir or ma’am bores me!). My major is Human Services and I am currently working in social work and have been since 2022.

I would say my biggest nerdy thing is how much I love Spider-Man! As soon as I had adult money, I got a giant Spider-Man tattoo on my right forearm and plan to add more to it. GOD, I love Spider-Man, seriously, I could go on forever. Otherwise, I also play video games, I have most every console, including the limited edition Spider-Man PS4 (can you tell how much I like Spider-Man yet???). I also have a weird thing for collecting tea accessories lol.

Can’t wait for this class, teacher seems mega cool!

i’m April James, I go by April, mainly. I’m kind of boring and don’t really have alot of hobbies. I work full time and sometimes I enjoy it so that might be my main hobby. Aside from surviving work, I enjoy surviving my pre-teen and sassy 9 year olds ‘boomer’ jokes, (i’m 37 but they love to troll me) Prior to my current health issues, I was starting to get into Roller Derby here in Albuquerque and had alot of fun learning how to fall and hurt myself properly. (it’s all in the hips guys) I hope to learn alot from this class and hopefully grow from the experience.
                                                                                        Good luck to everyone!

I really enjoy Roller Derby but my body suffers for it. You should come one day to a recruiter event. It’s really fun. They have loaner gear you can use and everyone is new so you don’t have to feel like you need to be advanced to try it.

                                                                                          • #66845 Reply

Some of my hobbies are going hiking, going to lakes, cooking, and spending way too much money on clothes. After cosmetology school I really want to go to school to become a dermatologist, skin is a really big thing for me and It’s something I try to take care of the most. For me my nerdiest thing is I like crime shows and documentaries of unsolved cases. My geekiest thing about me is I’m a clean freak, I don’t even share the same restroom as my family, and don’t even get me started on public restrooms.

On another note I can’t wait to start this class it seems absolutely amazing.

I am an Artist and a very proud Artist at that, however The nerdest/geekiest things/ hobbies I do are collecting Communist memorabilia, propaganda, and much much more, and when I say I collect Communist memorabilia, I mean I collect items from all over the past of the Eastern Bloc and other Leftist/socialist/Marxist nations, for example, I collect Soviet banners, pins, posters, art, medals, etc. I collect Eastern Bloc items from the GDR (East Germany), Poland, Yugoslavia, Romania, Albania, etc, even stuff from China, Vietnam, Cuba, and even a few things from the DPRK. The list goes on. Since this hobby is usually unheard of and looked down upon, I am probably the largest collector of Marxism-Leninism within the state of New Mexico, or even the entire Southwest, to the point that I could probably open up my own Communism Museum. At this point, you probably already know what philosophy I subscribe to, I will let you guess, but yeah, one of my main hobbies, next to creating art, is collecting Communism. Recently, I have been collecting a lot of Stalin-related items, they are extremely fascinating and extremely rare to come by due to de-Stalinization. So please be nice to me, I get it, okay? We live in the Western World, Socialism = bad Capitalism = epic freedom 4th of july ford f-150 cheese burgers my nation has never committed an act of terrorism!!! Anyways, jokes aside, I am really not here to argue, I am here to learn, understand, and most importantly, I am here to share! (Pun intended)

One of my main interests is forensics. I’ve always been into true crime, I’ve also taken forensics classes throughout high school and am now working on majoring in Forensic Psychology with a double minor of Criminology and Forensic Science!
Other than that, I’m also a big reader, I play bass guitar, do jiujitsu and I collect oddities!

My name is Autumn. While I listen to all kinds of genres of music, my nerdiest/geekiest interest has to be my mild obsession with classical music. I am a dual enrollment student and am planning on majoring in Piano Performance after graduation. Some of my favorite composers include Debussy, Stravinsky, R. Strauss, and more, though my real spirit animal has got to be Maurice Ravel (lol). Some great introductory pieces I can recommend are his Alborada del gracioso and Lever du jour! I love playing piano, exploring works and composers unfamiliar to me, and composing musical works of my own. On top of music, I enjoy running, backpacking, painting, and ice skating. I look forward to meeting new people and learning more about the field of philosophy!

My name is Kailiana or Kail for short, I am taking this class as I am required to take a dual credit class in order to graduate high school and I thought philosophy would be a fun class to take. One of my geekiest hobbies would be baking desserts, I love to bake big fancy cakes to small treats like macaroons, for example for my birthday I baked a berry Chantilly cake that I was very proud of. I of course have many other hobbies but I admire baking overall!

I like cooking and take stabs at different things, and baking is probably the most intimidating thing I try. My approach to cooking is to pick something I love and try to practice it until I can get it down. But baking kicks my butt, because each time I try to perfect something a bit tricky, like baguettes, they turn out good or bad at seemingly random. It’s like these little doughy bastards have minds of their own. (Yes, I know, you real bakers will try to tell me it’s just science, and I need to check the moisture or the proving or whatever. No, I’m telling you, it’s some kind of voodoo you have and I don’t. I’m jealous, okay!)

I’m majoring in Psychology and I’m super excited to take this course, I’ve never taken a Philosophy class before so I’m hoping I’ll finish this class with a better understanding of Philosophy. I wish you all a very happy and successful semester!

I have a telescope that I take out when I have free time to take pictures of the stars and planets. I also have a strong interest in understanding the world around us. This has led me to spend a lot of time learning physics, but there is always more to learn. I have also had a long relationship with philosophy, and I am hoping to continue that interest here in this class.

Anything you have photographed that was the most interesting to you? Always been fascinated with space and astrophysics, never have found the time to buy a telescope and just start so it’s awesome to see you’re really into it.

I would personally say between all of my hobbies, fishing is probably the one I nerd out on the most. Between decades old topo map studies and biological reports from as early as the 1950s, even as much as historical data and all the other things that go into understanding where when and how certain fish populations exist. I think all that gets a lot more nerdy than all the rusty bolts i have to deal with on my project cars. Im not quite sure how any of that relates to philosophy but maybe the goal is going to be finding how it all relates.

My preferred hobby but not necessarily my nerdiest one would be motorcycle racing which takes up most of my attention and free time. However my nerdier interest is building desktop computers. I’ve always enjoyed software development and video games for a good portion of my life. Once I got into PC gaming the interest compounded to the point of me getting more enjoyment out of building custom desktops and the hardware involved. While I don’t build desktops to often these days I normally will do it for a friend or family member still here and there and it has never lost my interest or passion for it. I look forward to getting to know you all more over the course of the semester! :)

When I was poorer, I would buy a basic PC and then slowly rebuild it piece by piece until it was capable to game on. But I never built one from scratch. You are way cooler than me.

And the other thing I used to do is turn family members’ old, slow laptops into speedy Linux machines without them knowing it wasn’t still Windows. (Story: My sister-in-law thinks she knows everything and was trying to help my father-in-law connect his new printer to his laptop. Ha! She didn’t even realize it was Linux when she had to call me for help.)

Nowadays I just buy a solid rig and then add the easy stuff to make it sing.

                                                                                                                          • #66986 Reply

Hello, everyone! My name is Zaira Elija (yes, I have two first names!), and I prefer to be called Zaira or “Z.”

My nerdiest/geekiest interests include rewatching the series Monument Mythos, listening to Rotten Mango, Nick Crowley, and Internet Anarchy, and reading and watching videos about game theories (especially theories about horror games). I’ve also been part of the Creepypasta fandom for more than 10 years.

I also have a favorite streamer, CaseOh, who I find funny and really entertaining to watch especially for horror games.

I’m pretty much open to any interests and hobbies, which is why I couldn’t list all of them. Anyway, I’m looking forward to learning more about philosophy! I’ll be honest, I initially confused philosophy with physiology and psychology, which is pretty funny sometimes.

                                                                                                                                    Hi everyone!

My name is Jose, but I usually go by Sebastian. I am studying Culinary Arts, and I really enjoy cooking and learning new things about food. Outside of school, I like working out, eating healthy, and spending time with my dog. I also really enjoy working on my car when I have some free time.

I like playing soccer and video games too. After I finished high school, I read “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. I liked it because it made me think about life, goals, and the choices we make.

I am a pretty simple person, and I enjoy learning from different experiences and hearing other people’s ideas. I am interested in philosophy because I like thinking about things that are not always easy to understand and looking at different points of view. I am hoping to learn something new from this class and understand some of these ideas better.

                                                                                                                                    Nice to meet everyone!

I am currently pursuing pre-law with a passion/major in philosophy, and I am passionate about literature and all things creative.

Outside of my academic career, I enjoy making music and reading/writing. I am a huge guitar nerd, and I enjoy exploring the technical/structural aspects of the instrument just as much as I love playing music.

I also love film (I am a horror fan, in particular). I have a deep appreciation for all of the different contributing factors involved in the film making process, and it is my dream to one day work on a film set and contribute to the creation of such a lovely art form.

I am very excited to get to enage with the subject matter of this course, nice to meet you all!

I’ve given away most of them already, but there are still some of my philosophy books that are harder to read and so harder to give away to a normal reader, so tell me what are your favorite sub-disciplines so that I can see if I have some books left you might want.

That’s been my enjoyable hobby since 2020. I now talk to birds and they let me get closer and look at me in the eye. I’ve even been able to feed a bird from my hand. On Mother’s Day while walking with my grown up chidren at Montrose Bird Sanctuay in Chicago, a Red Wing Black Bird flew to my hand and ate seeds I was holding and offered to them. It was a magical and beautiful moment.
